Pla de Barris Raval Sud

The Pla de Barris del Raval Sud is a project carried out by the City Council of Barcelona aimed at improving and transforming the south sector of the Raval district, improving the quality of life of its neighbours.

The Raval Open Network project foresees the deployment of network insfrastructure at several locations in the Raval district. This network will allow its users to connect to the Guifi.net Community Network as well as have direct access to several Internet resources and contents provided by the participating partners.

Together with  Foment de Ciutat Vella and with support from the Guifi.net community, Routek has installed several network supernodes to improve the geographic coverage of the Guifi.net Community Network in the Raval district and extend it further.  These nodes are located at the following places:

• Carrer Els Salvador, 24
• Carrer Peu de la Creu, 8
• Rambla del Raval, 29
• Ronda de Sant Pau, 80

The network nodes are based on embedded network devices with MIMO 802.11n WiFi technology operating at the free 5 GHz ISM band.  Given the characteristics of the district, with a high density construction and population, offering direct connectivity at ground level is not a feasible approach. Therefore, radio network devices must be installed on rooftops and terraces. End users (either particulars or institutions) will access the network via a cable linking their equipment at the rooftop and the computers indoor.
